Skill Divisions

To ensure fair and competitive play, Honcho Pickleball Leagues utilize the Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating (DUPR) system to categorize players into appropriate skill levels. DUPR is a global rating system that assigns players a rating between 2.0 and 8.0 (<3.0 = beginner, while 4.0+ = advanced) based on their match results. This system allows players of all ages, genders, and locations to be rated on the same scale and compete strongly and properly alongside one another.

Understanding the fundamental rules of pickleball and accurately assessing your skill levels, across the 4 skillset divisions listed above, are essential for an enjoyable playing experience.

Novice Division

DUPR Rating: < 3.0
Players who are familiar with the game and its rules, play a couple of times per month, and are looking to improve their skills. While we welcome newbies, we expect all players to have played pickleball at least a handful of times and to understand the rules and scoring protocols! If you play less than once a week, this is likely the spot for you!

Intermediate Division

DUPR Rating: 3.0 – 3.5
If you play 1-2 times per week, know how to consistently dink and know the strategy/approach of gameplay, this could be the spot for you!

Upper-Intermediate Division

DUPR Rating: 3.5 – 4.0
If you play 2+ times a week, know how to confidently dink, know how to drop, know the strategy/approach of gameplay, and know how to compete strategically in long rallies, this could be the spot for you!

Advanced Division

DUPR Rating: 4.0 - 4.75
If you play 3+ times a week, and know how to confidently and consistently dink and drop, know how to move in tandem with your partner, know how to go deep in rallies, and know how to think 3 shots ahead in order to set your team up for an opportunity, this could be the spot for you!

What is DUPR?

DUPR or the “Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating” is the most accurate and only globally-recognized rating system in pickleball. All players, regardless of their age, gender, location, or skill, are rated on the same scale ranging between 2.0 and 8.0 based on submitted match results to DUPR’s platform. This system ensures a fair and competitive environment for all participants.
At Honcho, we have a direct relationship with DUPR and offer the ability for Honcho League match results to be uploaded to DUPR so you can bolster your rating, clearly track your skill development week over week, and ensure you’re signed up for the right skill division each season.
Understanding Honcho skilll-set divisions and accurately assessing your skill level will enhance your experience in the Honcho Pickleball League. We look forward to seeing you on the courts!
