Frequently
Asked Questions

What if i can't make a week?

No worries — you’ve got options. Depending on your league format, you can either RSVP no ahead of time, or send a sub to play in your place. Some teams also keep backup players on their roster just in case.

You’ll be scheduled for 3 games within a 1-hour time block, at minimum — sometimes a longer time block — depending on your group size! And keep an eye out for pop-up Open Play Courts throughout the season, your chance to snag extra games and meet even more players.

Depends on the format! If you want to play with the same partner every week, look for a league with a Same-Partner format. Otherwise, our Rotating Partner Ladder League is a ‘join solo’ format — you’ll join on your own and get paired with a variety of players as you move up and down the ladder, rotating partners each game throughout your 3 games that night.

It’s a one-time fee for your entire season — no weekly charges, no surprises. It covers your court costs, a fully managed season, a free Honcho tee (~$70 value), an end-of-season event, and the chance to score pop-up giveaways and surprises throughout the season.

Attendance matters:

No-show without a sub = a strike. 2 strikes and you could be removed from the league without a refund.

What's
My skill level

Honcho’s Ladder Leagues are open-skill level – no matter where you are in your pickleball journey, you’ll find your people here. Everyone competes in the same league, but your skill level selection at registration sets your starting ladder spot for week one. From there, your results do the talking — win or lose, the ladder moves you toward your true competition, week over week.

Starting Skill Level Selection Options:

Brand New to Pickleball

Just starting out

You know the basics and can get the ball over the net, but you’re still building consistency. If you’ve played a couple games (or will by league start), this is your starting point

(~DUPR 2.0+)

Beginner

Playing about every other week?

You’ve got the fundamentals down and play somewhat regularly, holding your own in a rally while still refining your shots. This is likely your starting point

(~DUPR 2.0-2.5)

Upper Beginner

Getting more comfortable and playing with more intention

Consistently returning shots and starting to understand positioning. A racquet sports background or quick coordination could land you here too

(~DUPR 2.5-3.0)

Intermediate

Iron sharpens iron,

And you’re ready to be sharpened — playing 1-2x a week, dinking consistently, with solid rally stamina and general strategy

(~DUPR 3.0-3.5)

Upper Intermediate

You’re leveling up

Playing 2-3x a week, dinking and dropping with confidence, and hold your own in longer rallies.

(~DUPR 3.5-4.0)

Advanced

Playing 3+ times a week

You dink and drop with consistency, move in tandem with a partner, and think a few shots ahead to set up the win

(~DUPR 4.0-4.75)

NOTE: Honcho doesn’t run lessons or clinics — beginner-friendly means welcoming to newer players, not instructional. Come knowing the basics so you’re ready to play from night on e. Grab some friends and hit a local park, or check if your venue offers open play, lessons, or classes before the season starts!
